Trident Sustainability Group’s Project Wins ENR Southeast Award!

Trident Sustainability Groups LEED Platinum project 306 W Waldburg won the best small project from ENR Southeast.

Each year, the projects recognized by ENR Southeast’s Best Projects competition showcase the most accomplished construction and design efforts taking place throughout the region. In addition, they often illustrate the future of construction, highlighting innovative approaches and project types that may one day become commonplace. Considering the state of the construction industry, this year’s winners also collectively reveal the Southeast’s future opportunities.

ncluded among this year’s winners: a high-tech library that opts for digital tools over bookshelves; a super-green data center; a middle school that produces more energy than it uses; a high-rise condominium built in just 12 months; and a LEED-Platinum-rated single-family residence.

This year, ENR Southeast received more than 70 entries from projects located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. After reviewing the entries, an independent panel of judges met and decided to recognize 25 projects completed during the last year with a Best Projects award. This year’s main group of judges included: Tim Ackert, project director with the city of Orlando; Will Caulder, senior vice president with Rodgers Builders, Charlotte, N.C.; Taras Diakiwski, vice president for Plaza Construction, Miami; Ian Kinnear, chief engineer, Professional Service Industries, Orlando; Howard Wertheimer, director of capital planning and space management, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta; and Mark Wylie, president and CEO of ABC of Central Florida, Orlando.

Additionally, a separate team of safety experts assisted with the selection of this year’s Excellence in Safety award. Those judges included: Gaylord Ballard, senior health, safety and environment manager with KBR in Durham, N.C.; David Lockhart, director of loss control with Poole & Kent Co. of Florida, Miami; and David Wessin, vice president of safety and loss control with Miami-based Coastal Construction Group.
